Jytte Strøm

was educated at Copenhagen’s ”School of Decorative Art” (now ”The Danish Design School”). Since the 1990s, she has created and exhibited her ceramics and carried out commissions both large and small for companies, private individuals, associations and municipalities. Jytte Strøm’s ceramics are characterised by simple shapes with special focus on the decorative aspect. One of her fundamental sources of inspiration is the classic ”slip-decorating” technique in ceramic design.

An example of Jytte Strøm’s ceramic work is the colourful sinks created to decorate the bathroom. The sinks are shaped on the pottery wheel as large bowls, and are later decorated by hand with their own unique painting, which gives them a vivid yet rustic streak.

Jytte Strøm’s vision is to design and create unique and practical pieces with a high decorative quality, such as dinner services, dishes, and vases in small collections. Few of her pieces are entirely identical. Strøm has developed her own way of decorating her pieces, in which paint, hand-printed texture and patterns are employed to create a vibrant surface. Order/variation, depth of colour and texture are some of the key concepts important to Jytte Strøm in her craftsman-like approach to creating her works.

Throughout her ceramic career, Jytte Strøm has worked with large sculptural pieces, decoration and water art. With her small sculptures, she has focused on organic structures in part through her commentary on the artist’s approach to characters and stories.
